  • Waiting 'Til The Shine Wears Off

I had what I would consider to be a pretty epic visit to Austin.  However, the exact level of the epicicity is still To Be Determined.

As I've gotten older I've made a pretty concentrated effort to not worry about things I can't control.  So, I go with the flow.  Roll with the punches.  But sometimes, human nature is hard to subdue.  Especially mine.

I was able to get back on a real running track after having been caged in a treadmill for the last few weeks.  And damn, it felt good.  And, with the Houston Half Marathon looming in late October, I really need to get my outside run on more often.

So, I went ahead and registered for the Nike 10K that takes place in Austin on August 31.  So I'll be in Austin again in a couple of weeks, and I consider that a positive.  Being that my work is right on I-10, it's actually a real quick and pleasant ride.

After the losers at answers.yahoo.com failed me at identifying the mystery bumper music on Rome, I asked on the Rome fan forum at stucknut.com, and success.  The epic song is "B is for Brutus" by The Hives.

Along with "Wolf Like Me", that's two recently discovered high-powered kick-ass tracks that will come in handy on my 10K / Half-Marathon song mix.

There's something to be said for living in limbo. Take it or leave it.

Unrelated: I've dropped down to 177.2 lbs somehow.  Even though I threw down $150 on a scale, I don't like to use it that often.  Ignorance is bliss, you know.  In fact, this is only the second time I've gotten on since I got it. I guess all the impromptu fasts have had an effect.

Addendum: All this time I've lived here I knew of Terry Hershey park.  I knew it had trails and I knew it was like a mile from my work.  But I never went.  Why? Trying new things is hard.  But I finally went this afternoon looking for some quality running and I've been missing out.  Best. Trail. Ever.  With the lush vegetation and exquisite greenery, at times I didn't know if I was in Houston or England, circa 900 A.D.  I hit it up for 5 miles today (2.5 there, 2.5 back), but with over 12 miles of perfectly paved trail now at my disposal to train on, this half-marathon looks to be cake.  And, Fact: There is a trailhead 2.7 miles from my house.  *faint*
